Jeronimo Neumann ... does the Argentine striker deserve a ban for simulation? Source: News Limited

Adelaide United forward Jeronimo Neumann faces a two-match ban if he is found guilty of diving in the 3-1 win over Wellington Phoenix.

The A-League's Match Review Panel meets on Monday afternoon to review the second-half incident which resulted in Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund being sent off.

The panel must decide if Sigmund made enough contact with the striker to warrant a red card. If they decide he did, Jeronimo will avoid joining former Perth Glory striker Michael Baird and Central Coast midfielder Patricio Perez as A-League players to have been penalised for simulation.

Reds coach John Kosmina said Sigmund deserved his red card, likening the incident to Nigel Boogaard's send-off in the first leg of the Asian Champions League quarter-final against Bunyodkor.

"Ben Sigmund made two mistakes," he said.

"He let his player get the wrong side of him and when he tried to recover he put his hands on him. You can't do that.

"It's as simple as that. If he never did that there might have been a completely different scenario."

The league also will conduct an internal investigation into whether Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante brought the game into disrepute when branding Jeronimo a cheat in a post-match interview.

Kosmina said Durante should have held his tongue.

"Some players dive, some players don't," he said.

"Some players milk fouls, some players don't. It's part and parcel of the game and it's part and parcel of sport. It's not cheating."

Reds defender Cassio, who celebrated his 100th game with his first goal in three years, also took issue with Durante's comments.

"He shouldn't do that as a professional in my opinion," he said.
