THERMAL coal may not be quite so bulletproof as some might have thought. Prices out of Newcastle have been close to three-year lows over the past week and the prime reason is - not unexpectedly - China.
The immediate cause is a combination of faltering growth in electricity demand in that country along with higher than expected output from the hydropower stations supplying the Chinese grid.
