David Beckham has moved a step closer to a possible A-League stint after officially ending his stint in Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy.

"I've had an incredibly special time playing for the LA Galaxy, however, I wanted to experience one last challenge before the end of my playing career," Beckham said.

"I don't see this as the end of my relationship with the league as my ambition is to be part of the ownership structure in the future."

Beckham will officially call time on his five-year US stint after the MLS Cup final at the end of November.

At least six of the 10 A-League teams have been linked with the superstar since news of his supposed interest in the Australian domestic league was broken last Friday.

Melbourne Heart, Perth Glory, Western Sydney Wanderers, Adelaide, Brisbane Roar and Newcastle have been named as potential suitors.

Perth have been installed as favourite but news on Tuesday that Heart will be without Mate Dugandzic for up to three months with a broken foot has brought them right into play.
