Luis Suarez continued his rich vein of form with two goals to help Liverpool to a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Anfield.

The Uruguayan took his tally for the season to 13 goals with two second-half strikes with the impressive Jose Enrique netting the third with his first goal for the club.

The victory was well deserved for the home side after a dour first half with Wigan struggling to pose only problems to the returning Pepe Reina in the Liverpool goal.

The win is only Liverpool's second home success of the season in the Barclays Premier League to lift them up to 11th spot in the table.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisted he was always confident his side would improve throughout the season and was happy with the showing.

"Our overall performance was outstanding. We created chances and we took the chances," he said.

"We are seven unbeaten now in the league and for our confidence it is important. I felt that we would get better throughout the season.

"Wigan are a very good side, they have some dangerous players. Roberto has done an outstanding job with Wigan."

The match was overshadowed by a broken leg suffered by Ben Watson in the first half in an accidental clash with Raheem Sterling.

And while Latics boss Roberto Martinez had no complaints over that challenge, he felt Suarez was fortunate to escape punishment for a tackle on David Jones.

"I haven't seen the challenge back, but I don't think any of the players were looking at each other," said Martinez.

"Both were looking at the ball - it's a real accident. It's a nasty collision."

The injury means Watson will be out of action for up to three months and is set to return in the New Year.
