BRISBANE Roar have confirmed that the club's youth team skipper Corey Brown has signed a senior deal with the A-League champions.
As revealed in The Courier-Mail on Monday, 19-year-old Brown has elected to stay with Brisbane after changing his mind about a move to Newcastle Jets, where he had agreed to terms.
The Australian under-20 fullback has signed a two-year deal with the Roar.
"I'm excited about being given the opportunity to step up," Brown said.
"I've felt like part of the squad for two years now but it's great to confirm it with an A-League contract."
Jets coach Gary van Egmond said Brown being happy with his decision was paramount.
"Of course, we'd love to have had Corey,'' van Egmond said.
"He's a Brisbane boy ... it was good that he obviously considered us.
"He's a good young player coming through and we wish him all the best.''
Brown is seen as the successor to Brisbane's veteran left-back Shane Stefanutto.
"Hopefully I can put a bit more pressure on Shane and work my way up to earning a bit of game time (this season)," Brown said.
"Next season, I want to put even more pressure on him but Shane is a good player so it isn't going to be easy."
Brown's retention comes hot on the heels of the club signing Socceroos defender Jade North and teenage attacking weapon Julius Davies.
