CENTRAL Coast Mariners wonderkid Tom Rogic will head for Glasgow today ready to seal the deal for his move to Scottish giants Celtic.
Rogic will travel back with the Celtic squad after their friendly with Steaua Bucharest in Spain, ready to discuss personal terms as the Mariners and the Bhoys manoeuvre towards final agreement on a fee.
Though the Mariners were unable to give permission for Rogic to play against the Romanian side, citing insurmountable insurance and registration issues, Rogic has impressed the Celtic coaching staff sufficiently in a five-day trial to earn a move that will land the Mariners a huge and welcome windfall.
The Mariners hoped to receive a formal bid overnight, having got close enough in negotiations to allow Rogic to stay in Europe rather than rush back to face Newcastle on Saturday.
With Celtic believed to view Rogic as first-team material in the short term, it potentially opens the way to involvement in Celtic's Champions League games against Juventus next month. Clubs who reach the last 16 of the Champions League are permitted to add three players to their registered European squads by February 1.
Meanwhile, Brisbane Roar have confirmed Erik Paartalu will leave immediately to join Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda on a two-year deal, as defender Jade North arrived to bolster the Roar's defence.
"The history books will always mark Erik's onfield contribution in helping secure Brisbane's first two championship trophies," Roar coach Mike Mulvey said. "He has been very professional in my time at the club and shown a commitment in helping the club turn things around."
