Very strong winds along the coast are likely to occur overnight from around 10pm onwards. Wind and rain should ease before sunrise as the system moves further to the south.
Earlier today meteorologist John James said that conditions would deteriorate over the afternoon and evening.
"It'll be a gradual process throughout the afternoon, particularly from 4pm. Steady rain and high winds are likely to persist until at least the early hours of the morning. Hopefully the low will slip to the south and we'll get an easing trend by sunrise tomorrow.
"There are some flood watches in place for the Hunter, which are really just a heads up for farmers at this stage to be ready to act. Further advice will be put out later this afternoon."
Flood Watches are in place for the Williams, Paterson and Hunter Rivers.
Police have also issued a travel warning, advising motorists to delay or reconsider travel during Monday.
If you have a storm emergency you can call the SES for help on 132 500.
