Anasta wary over potent Panthers - Sky News Australia

Anasta wary over potent Panthers

Braith Anasta has warned his Wests Tigers teammates that a repeat of last Monday's NRL performance against Newcastle will result in a similar outcome against Penrith on Sunday.

Written off as wooden spoon contenders before the start of the season, the Panthers were hugely impressive against Canberra, chalking up a 32-10 win over the Raiders last Sunday.

In contrast, the Tigers were woeful at Hunter Stadium as they slumped to a 42-10 defeat in what was a debut to forget for recent recruit Anasta.

'We were immediately disappointed, but when you look at the stats and you look at the game, it's pretty obvious why we lost it,' Anasta said ahead of Sunday's game at Campbelltown.

'We know what we have to control possession and tighten up the ruck a little bit.

Penrith are a young team but have some very good players. Sam McKendry and Tim Grant are representative players and they looked the goods last week.

'Their confidence will be up and they can hurt us if we play like we did against Newcastle.'

The Tigers had an emotionally-charged build up to the game following the death of young prop Mosese Fotuaika, who's funeral took place in Brisbane last Thursday.

Anasta was adamant that it should not be used as an excuse for the loss, but said it was a factor.

'None of us are using that as an excuse as that is the type of group we've got here, but when you look back, it was a very interrupted week,' he said.

'It was shocking situation, a lot of the guys here were very close to him.'
