THE Broncos could lose two of their four playmakers this year because Ben Hunt is also off contract and open to offers.
Hunt is more likely to stay in Brisbane than his good friend Corey Norman, who has fielded a large offer from Parramatta and is set to head south next season in a bid to regularly play five-eighth.
Hunt has been signed to the Broncos since he was 13.
It is understood his preference is to stay at the club and negotiations are to start within six weeks.
Cronulla have made a play for Hunt in the past 12 months and his talent will ensure interest from other clubs.
Hunt is a shy playmaker from the outskirts of Rockhampton who is not interested in the hectic life of Sydney.
However, he also believes in his talent and is backing himself to become a first grader.
The 22-year-old has predominantly been an interchange player during the past two years, stuck behind Norman, Peter Wallace and Scott Prince. His natural position is halfback but he is struggling to push past the club's current halves pairing and is being used to give hooker Andrew McCullough a short spell during games.
Hunt signed a 12-month extension in January last year. Alex Glenn, Jharal Yow Yeh, Andrew McCullough and Dave Hala also pledged allegiance at the same time but Hunt signed the shortest deal.
In other news, Newcastle's flying start to the season has been given a further boost, with winger James McManus signing a new three-year deal.
