The 46 year old father to five children says he'd never considered smoking cannabis until it was recommended to him by a health professional to ease his pain.
"I know I have a horrible, painful death ahead of me and I'm currently on a large number of medications to break through the pain," he told 1233's Jill Emberson.
"Marijuana makes my life a bit easier and with less side affect then morphine. It's a lot less intrusive, it allows me to sleep, reduces nausea and I still have an appetite."
Stuart has written a submission to a NSW parliamentary inquiry looking into the legal use of medicinal cannabis.
He says the cost and the difficulty in acquiring the drug means he can rarely use it despite the benefits.
"I won't get to see this change, if there is a change, but I hope that there is a change, so then people who are in my position will get the benefit of people like me making these submissions."
Stuart and his family live on a property in the Hunter Valley's Upper Rouchel area.
