Michael Chammas writes: The Wests Tigers will be seething after their 32-point thrashing at the hands of Newcastle on Monday night. Coach Mick Potter has named the same team that took the field in round one, showing faith in the players that defended so poorly at Hunter Stadium. They will be up against a Panthers side that surprised many with their first-up victory against the Raiders.

While it was obvious Ivan Cleary’s side lacked a strike weapon on the edges, their forwards laid a solid platform for their halves to dictate the tone of the match against a hapless Canberra side. Penrith haven’t got the roster to blow teams off the paddock but if they can learn to play for 80 minutes and grind out games, they’ll win more matches than most anticipated before the season.

AAP writes: Written off as potential wooden spooners before a ball had been kicked, Penrith showed plenty of quality in brushing aside Canberra last week. Conversely, the Tigers looked like a side destined for a long season as Newcastle racked up 42 points against them on Monday.

Coach Mick Potter has kept an unchanged side, but that won't be the case for long unless they improve - and fast.

Key: The pressure is on young halfback Jacob Miller to step up and prove he's good enough to play in the NRL and a Sunday afternoon at a packed Campbelltown is a good place to try and start.
