Newcastle boss Alan Pardew says he remains hopeful captain Fabricio Coloccini will return to help the Magpies in their fight against Premier League relegation.
Coloccini has missed the last 11 games in all competitions after the Argentine broke two bones in his back at the end of February.
But Pardew is hopeful the 31-year-old will be fit enough to play some part in the Magpies’ last four matches as they look to seal their top-flight status.
‘Colo is training. He hasn’t done full physical training – that’s due to come, hopefully, this week,’ said the Newcastle boss.
‘We are fingers crossed because obviously, that would be a big boost for us to have our captain back, for sure.’

Newcastle are currently six points clear of the relegation zone but have played a game more than both Aston Villa and Wigan below them.
And their season has not been helped by the continuous string of injuries they have suffered.
Against West Brom on Saturday, Pardew was without Coloccini, Tim Krul, Davide Santon and Cheick Tiote, with Haten Ben Arfa only deemed fit enough for a 77th-minute substitute appearance.
‘We have got a good medical team here. In all seasons, there are one or two [injuries] perhaps you could have prevented by holding them back, and maybe that’s something we will look at,’ Pardew added.
