There have been many famous dogs in Australian history, the dog on the tucker box, Bouncer from Neighbours and of course Big Dog.
But Horrie, the war dog, a companion of Private Jim Moody and his unit across the Middle East, Greece and Crete during world War 2, is the subject of a new book by Roland Perry.
Horrie was smuggled through multiple theatres of war, to eventually find his way back to Australia in 1945 to find himself the subject of much controversy, when the Quarantine Dept took an active interest in animals brought back to Australia by returning soldiers.
