Meet the Mob: Craig Hammond - ABC Online

Basketball was an easy jump after proving his athleticism as a winger for the Moree Boomerangs rugby league team.

Craig went back to rugby league in 1986 when he scored a contract to play for the Central Charlestown Butcher Boys.

He's got a lot of fond memories from his time with the Butcher Boys, but says he'll always be a Boomerang and continues to cheer for Moree at the annual NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout.

A dedicated family man, Craig Hammond has pioneered a unique approach to supporting Aboriginal men in their roles as dads, uncles, pops and brothers.

His work is part of the Engaging Fathers program, currently known as Deadly Dads. Based in the Family Action Centre at the University of Newcastle, Craig has been there for over ten years and could happily stay for another ten - as long as the funding lasts!

Hosted by Jill Emberson, Mornings presenter on 1233 ABC Newcastle, Meet the Mob is a weekly profile of Aboriginal people in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
