74 people aboard a ship stuck in ice off Antarctica look like they will be staying put until the new year.
The MV Akademik Shokalskiy has been trapped in sea ice 1,500 nautical miles south of Hobart for a week now.
The expedition is retracing the steps of Sir Douglas Mawson's 1912 Antarctic trip, conducting scientific research.
Two attempts to reach the ship by Chinese icebreaker Xue Long and Aurora Australis have failed.
But both ships are on standby to make another rescue attempt if the weather eases.
Trip leader professor Chris Turney from the University of New South Wales says everyone on board is doing well.
"Morale is holding up reasonably well considering the circumstances."
"We've got about nine or 10 days worth of food."
