Meet the Mob: Timana Tahu - ABC Online

Tahu has played both rugby union and rugby league. He was once the highest try scorer for the Newcastle Knights and represented Australia in 2002 at the height of his career.

The father of three identifies more with his maternal Aboriginal heritage than his dad's Maori side. His mum comes from Wilcannia and so he's a Barkindji man.

Like lots of Aboriginal kids, Tahu spent much of his childhood living in hostels in Dubbo and Newcastle.

Today he's the face of Deadly Choices, the health campaign of the Awabakal Health Co-operative.

Tahu told Jill Emberson that Deadly Choices is a personal passion, not a duty.

Hosted by Jill Emberson, Mornings presenter on 1233 ABC Newcastle, Meet the Mob is a weekly profile of Aboriginal people in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
