Inner City Winemakers in Newcastle are making wine for the first time on premise in their Wickham Cellar Door. 1233's Daniel Honan went out to see, smell and taste the delightful creations being made right here in the heart of the city.
"Here we've got one and a half tonnes of sangiovese that we brought in from the Hunter Valley yesterday, and we've just started the ferment off this morning," says Rob Wilce, Director of Inner City Winemakers.
This is the first time that Rob has ever attempted making wine at the cellar door.
"We've got to come around every two or three hours during the day and plunge the grapes to make sure the temperature is spread out evenly," says Rob, "and because we haven't got a cooling system what we've had to do is put frozen bottles in with the juicet to keep it nice and cool."
Rob told 1233 that we can expect to taste the wine, hopefully by the end of the year.
