Cranky cat surgery - ABC Local

Tinker is 19 and because of her age and disposition she will be sedated using the cranky cat cage.

The cranky cat cage is actually only an airtight box that anaesthetic gas can be introduced into to sedate the animal so veterinarian Christopher Holland and assistant Katherine Longbottom can handle her without harm to anyone involved.

"She is a cranky old lady and she wouldn't put up with the usual sedation procedure" said Christopher knowingly.

Tinker's operation is a minor one, taking less than 15 minutes. A cotton bud and then a fine gauge needle is used to scrap away the ulcerated part of the cornea for it to grow back healthy.

She was in recovery in the surgery for 4 hours after the operation; older felines take longer to recover from anaesthetic, and then allowed to go home.

After appearing somewhat cheesed off for a few days, Tinker awaits a visit to Christopher next week to find out if the operation has been a success.
