From next Monday their free E-service to members will allow the download (for you to keep) of 3 songs a week.
Or you can stream (listen to over the internet) 3 hours of music a day.
Anjana Barnett is the acting manager of Lake Macquarie Libraries and looks forward to Monday. "We expect to attract more people to join up with this new music offering."
Currently there are 7 million songs and videos available on the Freegal eMusic service, from One Direction to the mighty Johnny Cash.
But what will Anjana be listening to?
"Today I'm really into Coldplay" she says.
Anjana says that by using an external third party group like Freegal, the infrastructure of the Lake Macquarie library system hasn't had to be expanded to prepare for the extra demand.
Let alone the idea of having 7 million CDs available for loan.
The most popular file is on the music service is Pharrell's Happy.
The mp3 music files will be Digital Rights Management (DRM) free and will be at 256kps quality for the audiophiles of Lake Macquarie.
With people downloading from the libraries themselves Anjana Barnett won't have to "shoosh" anyone.
"Actually in my 22 years of working in libraries, I've never shooshed anyone."
"And I won't have to ask anyone to return anything and, best of all, no late fees."
