Adelaide United coach John Kosmina has attacked the media for looking for A-League "scandals" after his side lost top spot on Sunday.

Adelaide is second on goal difference to Central Coast Mariners after the Reds 1-1 draw with Perth Glory at Hindmarsh.

Kosmina's team had a chance to remain two points clear of the pack if it had beaten Perth before meeting Melbourne Heart at Hindmarsh on Saturday.

The coach became irate when he was asked whether out-of-favour strikers Serginho van Dijk or Bruce Djite had a long-term future with Adelaide.

Van Dijk was jettisoned from the squad on Sunday while Djite played for just 26 minutes off the bench.

They are off contract at the end of the season.

"So what do you call long term future?" he said.

"Has any player got a long-term future?

"We've got 11 guys out of contract, Sydney has got 14 out of contract.

"The average contract in the A-League is 1.6 seasons, so has any player in the A-League got a long-term future?

"So I'll knock this on the head now.

"It seems that you guys at times look for scandal. You're looking for an angle.

"We are top at the moment equal top on goal difference by one goal.

"And we'll probably still be top if the Central Coast didn't have a charity against Sydney two weeks ago.

"So I don't know what the drama is.

"We haven't dropped down the ladder we're still top.

"This time last year we conceded 12 goals and scored six, we've scored more goals and we've conceded less so I don't know what the drama is."
