The A-League is on the verge of losing one of its best young talents with news that Central Coast Mariners midfielder Tom Rogic is expected to head overseas in the next few weeks.

Rogic, 20, has been linked with Barclays Premier League club Reading, which is known to have been keeping a close eye on his development for almost six months. There are also suggestions that Italian Serie B club Ascoli has shown interest.

The attacking midfielder shot to prominence 12 months ago when he made his debut for the Mariners in a round-18 match against Adelaide United and has gone from strength to strength.

Rogic made his Socceroos debut when he came on as a substitute in a friendly against South Korea two months ago and has been tipped as a future superstar of Australian football.

He was embroiled in controversy last week when he was sent off in the dying minutes against Sydney FC for a rugged challenge on Rhyan Grant. He was subsequently suspended for three weeks.

Rogic's departure overseas would be a huge blow to the Mariners, who are leading the competition. He would be impossible to replace at this stage of the season.

Losing players at this stage of the summer is nothing new for Central Coast. The club lost striker Matt Simon and Rostyn Griffiths midway through last season.

Meanwhile, Ian Ferguson isn't taking Perth's visit to Gosford on Monday night lightly, knowing their opponents have suffered a triple blow as they look to extend their unbeaten run at home.

"I'm not underestimating them in the slightest," the Glory boss said.

"I learnt my lesson against Western Sydney when we got away with a late goal to earn a draw last week.

"They may look weakened on paper, having lost their captain John Hutchinson, Tomas Rogic and Daniel McBreen to suspension, but no opposition coach in his right mind would sell any Graham Arnold-coached team short.

"Arnie's got a good squad and I know he's bringing in decent young players who know his structure and team philosophy.

"No matter who he brings in, they are going to be well-drilled and difficult to beat, especially on their patch."
