Central Coast Mariners star Tom Rogic admits he has given up trying to predict the next twist his career will take.

The hottest property in the A-League boards a flight for Spain on Thursday morning to train with Scottish giants Celtic.

Officially Rogic will be away only until the middle of next week on what the Mariners dubbed "an experience (involving) training as well as sports science and fitness testing".

Celtic are in Marbella on a mid-season camp preparing for the second half of the Scottish Premier League season and a Champions League last-16 tie against Juventus next month.

But with the club having already had an unofficial inquiry for Rogic knocked back, the anticipation is that a more substantial offer will follow and the gifted playmaker is close to a switch to Scotland.

It is understood Celtic have funded and arranged Rogic's trip to Spain because they are keen to get him there as soon as possible - an indication of their serious interest.

Suspended for the Mariners' clash against Melbourne Victory on Saturday, Rogic is - for now - due back to face Newcastle the following weekend once his ban for being sent off has expired.

It comes days after Barclays Premier League side Reading's bid for Rogic collapsed when he went cold on the move, but the 20-year-old is heading to Spain excited about what might lie ahead.

"It has been crazy," Rogic said.

"I only found out on Tuesday night I was going to Marbella to meet up with Celtic while I'm suspended back here.

"Not long ago they beat Barcelona in the Champions League and now I'm on my way to train with the first team, so it's a bit of a whirlwind. I'll learn a lot whatever happens, and it's a really exciting opportunity.

"Given the suspension, and with the team away in Launceston this weekend to play, I wouldn't be doing much with my time anyway - and then this came along."

Rogic eschewed any talk of a possible move, determined for now simply to milk the experience and anticipate a return to the Mariners' colours at the end of next week.

After winning the Nike Chance, an A-League deal with the Mariners and Socceroos representation, he suggested setting further goals would be a random exercise.

"Given everything that has happened in the past two years, I've almost got used to it going at this pace and never knowing what's coming up next," Rogic said.

"What I do know is that I have to keep working hard and be level-headed. None of these opportunities would have come about without doing that, and it's the only way to make the most of what might come up from now on."
