Around 400 people have been isolated as river levels rose after torrential rain at the weekend.
But it's fairly routine for locals who are used to such events, and children have been delighted to be able to stay home from school.
Hannah Thompson from 1233 ABC Newcastle went out on an SES flood boat to explore the temporary island of Hinton and chat to locals. (listen to attached audio)
The SES volunteers are delivering hay to stranded livestock and moving them to higher ground, as well as doing supply runs and essential medical transfers for the human residents.
Conditions are expected to ease tomorrow.
