TOMMY Berry can be forgiven for only worrying about hopping back aboard Golden Slipper favourite Overreach on Saturday.

But the young hoop is just as excited about partnering stablemate Under The Sun in today's Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket (1400m).

In what could be a huge few days for Berry, Under The Sun is just one of the hopes in what has been labelled one of the best Newmarkets in years.

Berry said while it was hard to ignore being reunited with Overreach, his immediate focus was giving Under The Sun a dream ride in the $125,000 provincial showpiece.

"Under The Sun is a horse on the up, he probably wasn't suited the other day by Warwick Farm and will appreciate getting on to a bigger track," Berry said.

"He's got great gate speed, has a nice long sustained run, is third-up and ready to go."

Berry quickly pointed out Gai Waterhouse's other Newmarket runner, Laser Hawk, was the one to beat, and said: "If he shows a glimpse of his best, he'll be winning."

All eyes will be on Berry when he rides Overreach in the Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.

While he's one of the youngest jockeys in today's Newmarket, veteran hoop Robert Thompson said the race was one of the hottest field in years.

Thompson last won his hometown Newmarket on Zabarra a decade ago, but said he only had an "outside hope" on Youthful King, especially given the presence of a Group 1 winner like Laser Hawk.

THE Australian Racing Board yesterday upgraded 41 races, including seven Group 3 races bumped up to Group 2 status. In further proof Australia loves two-year-old racing, Golden Slipper lead-ups the Sweet Embrace Stakes, Skyline Stakes and Silver Shadow all received the new Group 2 billing.
