Newcastle peacekeeper's name included on Honour Roll - ABC Online

The Newcastle father of a soldier who died while on peacekeeping duties in East Timor says having his name included on the Australian War memorial's Roll of Honour is a sign of respect.

The Council of the Australian War Memorial has announced the names of all fallen peacekeepers will now be included.

It comes after a lengthy campaign by the families of peacekeepers who died in non-war situations.

Those names are currently listed in a remembrance book.

Peter Pridue, whose 21-year-old son Beau died in a truck accident in September 2011, says it is long overdue.

"It's a brilliant, brilliant decision," he said.

"I want my son, and all those other young blokes recognised for their service to the country.

"I want to see it out in the open, not stuck in a cabinet, in a book.

"We thought it would be just automatic that they'd be put on a Roll of Honour.

"Apparently that wasn't the case because it wasn't in a war-like situation."
