Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior is visiting Newcastle in support of the campaign against the proposed fourth coal terminal.
The organisation's flagship vessel is travelling up the east coast on its way to Queensland where it is being used in the fight against nine new coal terminals.
It is expected to arrive in Newcastle Harbour at 8:00am (AEDT).
Georgina Woods from Greenpeace says it will be the first time the organisation has been to the city since the Esperanza visited in 2008.
"That was also to talk about the climate change campaign work that Greenpeace does," she said.
"We've always felt really welcome in Newcastle, we know that Newcastle is a town that has a very active community, very engaged in environmental matters."
Tomorrow Greenpeace members will meet with the Coal Terminal Action Group.
Ms Woods from Green Peace says the group is also conducting boat tours of Kooragang Island to people the existing coal infrastructure.
"We're hoping that we can take some of our smaller boats up into the south arm of the river to have a look at the scale of coal infrastructure already along the Hunter River along Kooragang Island," she said.
