ST George Illawarra forward Trent Merrin is set to make a permanent move to lock this year after being named in the No. 13 jersey for round one.

Merrin played prop for NSW last year, but was named in the back row by coach Steve Price today after impressing in that position during the trials.

As expected, Nathan Fien beat rookie Josh Drinkwater to the retired Ben Hornby’s halfback spot, while Chase Stanley beat Daniel Vidot to the centre position.

Cameron King has recovered from a serious concussion and will take his place on the bench as back-up for first-choice hooker Mitch Rein.

"The entire team are looking forward to the task ahead against the current reigning Premiers and executing our plays to the best of our ability," Price said.

"The players have worked extremely hard this pre-season and I know what they have all put in to be where they are now.
