With temperatures expected to soar into the eighties this Bank Holiday weekend, most people will be stripping off and heading to the beach or local park to take advantage of the rare British sunshine.

Not Newcastle's Cheick Tiote it would seem.

Obviously nostalgic for the long, harsh winter we've just been through, the Ivorian inexplicably decided to wear gloves against West Ham at Upton Park yesterday.

Feeling a bit cold, Cheick? Tiote opts for a pair of black gloves despite bright sunshine and temperatures of 20 degrees for Newcastle's match at West Ham

So while many of Newcastle's travelling fans took the opportunity to bask topless in the glorious East London heat, supposed midfield hardman Tiote was strutting around in black mittens.

To complete his bizarre look, he also opted for short sleeves.

Tiote and his teammates came away with a point following a goalless draw, which does little to ease their relegation concerns.

Inevitably, he came in for a serious ribbing from fans on Twitter afterwards.

'Cheick Tiote, call yourself a hardman? What a joke' wrote one.

Another added: 'Tiote, you're our team's 'hard man' yet you're wearing gloves and it is now May #sortitout.'

Others praised his performance in the centre of the park, despite the fashion faux pas, saying he is rediscovering some of his best form.
