CLARINGTON -- An arrest has been made after a pickup truck went on a rampage in south Newcastle on May 1, damaging vehicles, cable boxes, trees and lawns.

Port of Newcastle residents reported a pickup truck driving erratically, jumping curbs and colliding with vehicles and trees. At one point, the vehicle drove northbound on Keating Drive, crossed over both lanes of Milligan Street where it collided with a cable box and a parked vehicle. The pickup truck reversed and crossed a median on Port of Newcastle Drive, hitting four trees in its path. Four vehicles were damaged, but no injuries were reported.

Residents called police, who searched the area but could not locate the pickup truck.

Police put out a call to the public for help finding the driver of a light-coloured Dodge Ram pickup truck with front-end damage and missing both side mirrors. Several witnesses were able to give police information on the licence plate number of the truck.

The next morning, on Thursday, May 2, police announced a 26-year-old Cobourg man had been arrested and charged.

Christopher Dvernichuk, of Dalewood Court in Cobourg, is charged with dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
