Meet the Mob: Judge Matthew Myers - ABC Online

He was following in the footsteps first laid down by Bob Bellear who became the first indigenous judge of the District Court of New South Wales in 1996.

Although Judge Myers' legal career and call to the Bench was inspired by Bob Bellear, His Honour's heartfelt drive to take up the law was first formed on the streets of Redfern.

After a career as a solicitor, Judge Myers now presides over family law disputes in the federal Circuit Court of Australia in Newcastle. This court deals with over 80 per cent of all family court matters nationally.

When he is not in court making rulings on hundreds of family law matters at any one time, Judge Myers is working behind the scenes to get more Aboriginal people into law and ultimately on the Bench.
