Ray Kelly is a story teller, but today his passion is Aboriginal language and he can speak and sing it beautifully.
Three particular Aboriginal languages are at the heart of his PhD thesis at the University of Newcastle: Nganyiwan (or Unniwan), Gumbaingirr and Dhangatti.
These languages follow the river system of the New England region of New South Wales where Ray grew up on the outskirts of Armidale at Silver City Mission.
The place where he learnt his story telling skills from his grandmother Ethel de Silva.
Hosted by Jill Emberson, Mornings presenter on 1233 ABC Newcastle, Meet the Mob is a weekly profile of Aboriginal people in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
