Ella Reed started the annual Zombiefest as a lark 5 years ago and it has grown into an officially recognised event on the city's cultural calendar.
In 2009, when Ella first put the march on, it was an instant hit "the zombie march just appeared, as zombies do and everybody liked it".
"We get a lot of really die hard purist zombie fans and they get really into it".
This year as usual the staggering march will make its way to the cinemas in King St for the screening of the Zomiefest short film festival at 6pm.
The zombie trend this year seems to be an interest in people coming as zombie hunters, "this might have been sparked by The Walking Dead series this year" mused Ella.
A range of zombies can be expected as usual with Mexican zombie and zombie Santa turning up last year along side the usual doctors, nurses and brides (making use of their old wedding dress).
Ella's advice on the best frame of mind for Sunday afternoon is easy "just empty your mind of everything, like a zombie".
More helpful zombie advice about the afternoon and the film screening can be found at The Newcastle Undead Society.
