It was last Friday when a message came from 1233's acting content director Karen Shrosbery, via 1233 content manager Phil Ashley-Brown: is there any chance we could do something like this?
The message contained the link to a Christmas video produced by the ABC Western Queensland team, featuring staff holding up Christmas messages for listeners.
It also looked like a whole lot of fun, with footage of staff being a zany behind the scenes while broadcasting, which is what it's like most days here at 1233.
So full credit goes to ABC Western Queensland for the inspiration, and we got cracking straight away, shooting the whole thing over a couple of days, while we continued put our programs to air.
While editing the video together another Christmas video was unexpectedly released by ABC Brisbane featuring a song penned by presenter Kelly Higgins Devine and 'the 612 traffic guy'.
And suddenly the competitive spirit came out in force - our Christmas video needs to be better than theirs!
Staff who had previously been reluctant to perform on camera were now beating down the door of the edit suite to demand their 10 seconds to shine.
As usual the ABC Newcastle team rose to the challenge, pulling out all stops to convey to our audience the sense of joy that we bring to the job of broadcasting.
And we hope joy finds you with a smile on your dial this Christmas.
