Meet the Mob: Craig Hammond - ABC Online

As a winger for the Moree Boomerangs rugby league team he'd proven he could run - so basketball was an easy jump.

Craig couldn't believe his luck when he was offered a contract to play league for the Charlestown Butcher Boys in the 80s. But the Moree Boomerangs are still his team so you'll always hear Craig cheering for them when the knock-out comes around.

A dedicated family man, Craig Hammond has pioneered a unique approach to supporting Aboriginal men in their roles as dads, uncles, pops and brothers.

He's been working on the Deadly Dads program for over ten years at the University of Newcastle's Family Action Centre. He loves it and could do it for another ten - as long as the funding lasts!

Hosted by Jill Emberson, Mornings presenter on 1233 ABC Newcastle, Meet the Mob is a weekly profile of Aboriginal people in the Hunter region of New South Wales.
