Todd Alexander and Jeff Ross are living that dream, even though it wasn't exactly the plan when they left behind their old lifestyle in Sydney.
They'd planned the relocation, to set up a venture as a rural retreat for tourists, but ended up falling in love with a Belford property which also happened to have a 15 acre vineyard and another 15 acres of olives.
Todd says in the end the choice was simple.
"We decided could demolish those 30 acres and be left with pretty barren land or we could dive in headfirst and give it a shot - and see what came of it".
Jeff who now looks after the farming side of things says one of the first decisions they made was not harvest the vines.
"When we got here the grapes hadn't really been looked after... so we left them to fall off the vine".
After working hard to bring the vines back to health the couple harvested their first grapes in January and Jeff, who is a former finance officer, says all that hard work changed his attitude about the grapes and the vineyard.
"They have been my project for the last five months and I've begun to really fall in love with them, even though I hated them in the beginning, now I really like working up there."
"It's great. A really good change in life for me" .
The move has also been a huge change for his partner, Todd, who still works part time in Sydney for an international company. He now also keeps the books for the farm.
Todd says the tree change was about not "being slaves to the corporate world" forever.
"We wanted to do something for ourselves that was kind of setting us up for the next 20 years of our lives, instead of just being employees to a company," he said.
"To be in charge of our own destiny if you like."
Although their learning curve has been steep Todd says they have been guided by the help of wine consultant Jenny Bright and by asking other locals for advice.
"You can't afford to worry about looking or sounding stupid," Todd says
"If you don't understand how it works you just have to ask the question...We've just harvested 10 tonnes of grapes so we're obviously getting somewhere."
The next challenge for the pair is to learn all about producing olives.
