The latest chapter in a long-standing rivalry takes place on Wednesday night when Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo and Adelaide United gloveman Eugene Galekovic go head-to-head at Hindmarsh Stadium.
Both 31, Theo and Galekovic once fought for the same spot at Melbourne Victory before leaving their home town in search of greener pastures and new challenges.
Theo got the early jump on Galekovic, when the now-Reds captain left Victory for Adelaide in 2007 for the chance to play regular first-team football.
Galekovic has not looked back. He was a member of Australia's 2010 FIFA World Cup squad and has been capped half a dozen times for the Socceroos.
"I've got that over Michael but he's got a few championships over me," Galekovic said of Theo, who has won four A-League titles, two with the Victory and two with the Roar.
Theo's stints in Melbourne and Brisbane were separated by a disastrous season in England, where he played just one game for Norwich City.
Galekovic has been the better of the two keepers this season, with Theo's inconsistency among the many problems Roar have encountered in their thus-far disastrous bid for a hat-trick of championships.
However, Galekovic and the Reds came crashing back to earth last Friday night when second-placed Adelaide were thrashed 6-1 by Western Sydney Wanderers at Parramatta Stadium.
Mike Mulvey has made his first tough call as head coach of Roar, releasing Yuji Takahashi from his loan spell at the A-League club.
Takahashi had played 107 minutes from a possible 12 matches and had a clause in his contract allowing Brisbane to send him back early to Japanese second division club Kyoto Sanga.ide.
