When Hunter resident Drew Vincent travelled to Spain last year to run with the bulls, he came across a small silver camera containing 562 precious photos, sitting atop an ATM at a bus station in Pamplona.
After having no luck finding its owner, he and his father Garry got in touch with 1233 Breakfast to see if we might be able to help.
We put one photo on our Facebook page - a picture of what looked like a family portrait taken at the Yosemite National Park in California - and a story on our website. You shared it over 1,000 times, spreading the word to over 55,000 people online.
In less than 24 hours, it came to the attention of a young man called Ryan Armistead from San Francisco, California. He had lost his camera that same day in Pamplona over a year ago, and after a month of searching, had given up hope that he'd ever find it.
"I was extremely upset just to lose all those photos and the memories. I figured that it was lost forever, for sure," Ryan said.
After reading the story on the ABC Newcastle Facebook page, Ryan got in touch with us to lay claim to the camera. A bit of investigation revealed that he was indeed the owner, so there was only one thing left to do: introduce the missing camera owner Ryan to its finder Drew.
Ryan had three words for Drew - "you're my hero!"
