A heat wave for Andrew now means 5C, almost time for sunbaking in the park.
"Today I feel like we've got a heat wave, it's been plus five, I feel like running through the fields with my arms in the air," he says with a laugh.
The adventure began for the pair when Andrew's wife took a position in a hospital in Toronto.
"I can still remember the day that we both nervously let go of this application letter, dropping it into a mailbox thinking it would be one year of adventure, but a year turned into two and two has become more," he says.
Andrew and his wife live in the dense downtown area of Toronto known as 'the core'.
They enjoy stepping out of their building amidst restaurants and shops and benefiting from Toronto's outstanding public transport system.
"It's so easy to exist without a car here... we love it," he says.
Andrew continues to work for a Newcastle based company, working remotely by communicating with people at home and hosting daily meetings via Skype.
"It's career opportunity that brought us here and kept us here," he says.
But a love of the city and the opportunities it offers is what keeps the pair so far from their former home.
"We've had incredible travel opportunities, met so many lovely people, had wonderful experiences, it's been really something different in our lives," he says.
"We're definitely enjoying the adventure and that's what we came here for."
You can hear Andrew's tales every Tuesday on Drive with Paul Bevan from 3pm.
